ARGENTINA: Media law makes it through lower chamber

The lower chamber of deputies approved the government's media reform bill on 17 September after 13 hours of debate. The principal opposition parties abandoned the chamber in protest at alleged procedural irregularities, and the celerity with which the government pushed the bill through without a proper debate. The bill, which would break up media monopolies and increase state control over the industry, must now gain approval in the senate.
